29-years-old Swiss professional footballer who plays as a forward for the Switzerland women’s national football team and Chelsea Women, the club from the English FA WSL.

Ramona Bachmann was born in Malters, Switzerland. She spent her youth career at FC Malters. She played there in years 1997-2006. In 2006 she moved to SC Luwin (currently FC Luzern Frauen). After one year in the club at the age of 16 she signed for Swedish club Umeå IK after rejecting offers from both Germany and USA. At the very young age Ramona Bachmann became a key player at Umeå and she was rising as the star of the Damallsvenskan league (the highest division of women’s football in Sweden). She was voted Swiss female Player of the Year in 2009. During her career at Umeå IK she appeared in 50 games and scored 27 goals. In 2010, Bachmann decided to move to USA and join Atlanta Beat. Unfortunately, she was injured for a large part of the season and her contract with the club wasn’t renewed. Bachmann rejected offers from Germany, England and the US and decided to return to Umeå in 2011. During one season after returning she appeared in 21 games and scored 13 goals. She was named the best player of the 2011 season, and then moved to LdB Malmö (currently FC Rosengård). She turned into one of the best footballers in the world. During her stay in Malmö, she showed that she could be called one of the best. For three seasons at the club, she appeared in 74 matches and scored 45 goals. With FC Rosengard, she won the league championship three times in a row. And also won the Swedish SuperCup in 2015. In the summer of 2015 VfL Wolfsburg announced that they signed Bachmann. She was chosen Swiss Player of the Year for a second time in 2015. In December 2016, FA WSL club Chelsea London announced that Bachmann had agreed to join them.

About international career…
Bachmann played for Switzerland in the 2006 and 2010 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. At the 2009 UEFA Women’s Under-19 Championship in Belarus, Bachmann won the UEFA Golden Player award. She made her debut for the Swiss senior team against Sweden in June 2007, while only being 16 years of age. Which is quite impressive obviously. Bachmann’s biggest achievement so far was the qualification for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup, in Canada. Switzerland had never before qualified for a World Cup. During the World Cup, Switzerland reached the round of 16, with Bachmann scoring three times. The Swiss were eliminated by hosts Canada. In 2019 she has already played over 100 games for her national team in her entire career. And the counter is still ticking.

Despite the fact that Ramona Bachmann herself admits that her stay at Vfl Wolfsburg wasn’t the most successful time in her football career, to be honest, that was the time when she caught my biggest attention. I saw her for the first time during the 2015 Women’s World Cup in Canada. From that moment, I started following her career and began to be a fan. At Wolfsburg she always impressed me. What caught my attention during the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada? I think exactly the same what attracts the attention of every person watching her style of play. Fantastic technique, good dribbling and speed. Bachmann is a very fast player, when she gains speed it’s very hard to defend against her and technically she is definitely a world top. She has that quality. Sometimes I see the videos she shares on social media with her technical skills. Her ball control is from another planet. What’s noteworthy, I can’t tell which leg is her better leg. With both left and right legs she gives precise, strong shots and scores beautiful goals, such as those scored in the 2018 FA Cup Final against Arsenal. It was a showcase of this player’s skills, an individual brilliance from Ramona Bachmann. The first goal – a quick exchange of passes in a small space with Kirby and a rocket strike from a difficult position straight into the top right corner of the goal. Second goal – a masterpiece. She got the ball on the wing, one trick deceived the defender, running down inside and fired a shot from the left leg. The goalkeeper had no chance. She is very calm, very confident with the ball next to her foot. She is great at accelerating, slowing down, then accelerating again a moment later and using her speed to leave her rivals behind. Yes, it is true that as a striker she didn’t record brilliant statistics last season with Chelsea. Of course, she hadn’t scored as many goals as Miedema or Parris, but in my opinion she can still be called one of the best in the world. Why? Bachmann is a player who is able to change the face of the game in a short moment. She’s not afraid of taking the burden of the game on her shoulders. Just give her the ball and you will see. She is a type of player who,in my opinion, always gives a positive impact on the team. Of course, at Chelsea, she is not the only player who can do it, because Chelsea Ladies are currently a very strong team, with many international top players. Her presence on the pitch is always a huge advantage of the team. She’s incredible on the dribble and she can combines with other players for quick one-and-two-touch passes. Looking at her on the pitch, one word comes to my mind: the passion. She has it. Passion for what she does, dedication to this beautiful game, determination connected with that winner’s mentality. Her great advantage is also creativity, although she is a typical striker, sometimes looking at her game I have the impression that as the central midfielder she would be as valuable to the team as she is as a striker. Bachmann is a player who deserves more recognition. Tehnically, she is a world top player, in this category she can be mentioned in one sentence with well known for us – Norwegian striker- Caroline Graham Hansen or the Dutch star – Lieke Martens. What is also worth mentioning, she is not only a great player but also a great person. Yes, I’ve been lucky enough and I had the pleasure of meeting her live after one of the matches when she was still playing in Wolfsburg. It is impossible not to notice that good energy, smile and the fact that she always has time for her fans, who she cares about a lot. A very lovely, humble person. If you think so based on what you see in social media, then I can only confirm it. A perfect role model.
